Welcome to The PERS Customer Service Center

PERS invites you to use its Customer Service Center. This specialized department, which was inaugurated in December, 1997, was designed to allow PERS to quickly and efficiently handle our members' need for information. Employees staffing this department have received special training to allow them to answer a wide variety of questions so as to alleviate problems associated with the member being transferred between various departments to get answers to multiple questions.

Focused on customer service, the mission of the Center is to deliver friendly, timely and accurate information to our membership. This approach to service allows more members and agencies to contact PERS and to receive assistance in a positive "one-stop" service experience.

PERS has dedicated sufficient staff members to this Center to adequately handle the thousands of calls received each week while allowing other staff members to process work without interruption. This staff not only is able to answer questions on benefits of all retirement systems administered by PERS, but is able to provide specific member account information, take requests for information, provide information on the status of claims, and other information of importance to our membership.

Requesting An Employee Contribution Balance Letter

A member may request a balance of his or her account and receive a balance letter in the following ways:

When making a request for a balance letter, the following information will be needed:

  1. Name

  2. Retirement Plan (PERS, SLRP, MHSP, MUNI)

  3. Social Security Number

  4. Current Address

  5. Fax number, if you desire the information to be faxed.

  6. Member Signature

How To Change An Address (Members and Retirees)

It is extremely important that we know where to send information to our members and retirees regarding their account. Each year, PERS seeks to communicate important information to our members and retirees. PERS mails newsletters to members and retirees throughout the year. Member Statements are mailed annually in late summer or early fall and our retirees are sent a 1099R in January of each year. In order to ensure that these items reach our members and retirees, PERS maintains a current mailing address for each retiree and member.

If your address has changed or is going to change, please request a PERS Form 1C, Change of Information. For the benefit and protection of our retirees and members, PERS will not accept a change of address or change of beneficiary over the telephone. Any change of information affecting your account MUST be made in writing.

How To Apply/Change Direct Deposit Of Monthly Benefits

PERS offers direct deposit of your monthly retirement benefit by electronic transfer to your financial institution. A PERS Direct Deposit Form must be completed by you and your financial institution and sent to PERS before your funds can be sent directly to your checking or savings account. Once the completed form is received by PERS, please allow 2 to 3 months before your benefit will post directly to your bank account.

Federal Reserve Bank Holiday Policy: When holidays fall on Saturday, Federal Reserve Banks and branches will be open the preceding Friday. For holidays falling on Sunday, all Federal Reserve offices will be closed the following Monday.

How To Order A Duplicate 1099R

Benefit recipients receiving benefits from a retirement system administered by PERS can order a duplicate 1099R by calling PERS at 1-800-444-PERS (7377) or in Jackson at (601) 359-3589. You will be required to provide your social security number and the tax year for which the 1099R is needed. Allow 1 - 2 weeks for PERS to process your request.
